BREAKING: APC extends caretaker committee’s tenure by six months

The National Executive Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress on Tuesday extended the tenure of the party’s caretaker extraordinary convention planning committee led by Governor Mai Buni by six months.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the committee attended by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.); Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and other party chiefs.

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, told State House correspondents at the end of the meeting that the party also approved the expulsion of former National Vice Chairman, South-south, Ntufam Hilliard Eta, for his failure to withdraw the court case instituted against the caretaker committee.

The governor said the NEC also dissolved all states, zonal, and national party structures.

There was pandemonium at the High Court Road, Akure, the Ondo State capital, as the supporters of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party engaged in free for all on Tuesday,

The fight took place outside the Ondo State High Court Complex, Akure, the venue of the Ondo State Election Petitions Tribunal. Some of the supporters were reportedly injured.

According to an eyewitness, the residents and the shop owners in the area had to run for their lives as the political supporters were fighting each other, using dangerous weapons. It was gathered that, for almost an hour, there was no vehicular movement in the area as a result of the crisis.

This happened when the election petition tribunal held its inaugural sitting on the petition filed by the candidate of the PDP in the October 10 governorship election, Mr Eyitayo Jegede, who is challenging the victory of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of the APC in the election.

This decision is significant because, upon reassignment, the new judge will set a fresh date for the hearing, which, according to reports, may be sometime in October or November. Until then, all parties must maintain the status quo, meaning, Hon. Moses Peter will continue as the chairman, and the caretaker committee's actions will be rendered ineffective, making all their decisions null and void. In terms of the upcoming elections, this implies that: - The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) will be legally bound to recognize Moses Peter as the party chairman and work with him on all electoral matters. - Candidates not presented to KOSIEC through the office ...
