Gov Adamu Attah of Kwara State


 Meet Adamu Atta who was an indigene of Ebira land, in present Kogi State. Born in Okene in 1927, he was son of warrant chief Ibrahima Atta, whom the British granted wide powers under the Native Authority system.


Alhaji Adamu Atta of blessed memory, he was managing director of Nigeria electricity power authority in Kanji dam before he retired.


He became the first civilian governor of kwara state, representing the National Party of Nigeria (NPN), although he came from a minority ethnic group.


Atta defeated Obatemi Usman for a seat in the Constituent Assembly in 1977.


He was also a member of the 1976 constituent assembly. His impact as governor will linger on as his laudable achievements in the present day Ebira land can not be over emphasized.


During his administration as the then Kwara State governor, Secondary schools in Ebira land rose from six (6) to thirty eight (38).


His regime brought about the School of Nursing (now College of Nursing, Obangede), the Specialist hospital, Obangede; The Osara Campus of the present Kogi Polytechnic; the construction of the Okene-Kuroko-Itakpe road, electrification of several communities,numerous empowerment programmes benefited by many Ebira people among others.


He sponsored many to Mecca on holy pilgrimage within and outside Ebira.


His administration was also responsible for the creation of Local Government Areas like Adavi, Ageva and others which were later scrapped by the Buhari Administration.


His legacies in kwara can never be forgotten in a hurry.
