Education: REMOVING HISTORY SUBJECT FROM CURRICULUM IS EVIL- Benue Governor

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom on Thursday faulted the removal of history subject school curriculum in Nigeria.

Ortom, who spoke in Makurdi at 'Media Week and Communications Day 2021' organized by the Directorate of Social Communications, Catholic Diocese of Makurdi, said the removal would prevent posterity from having knowledge of important events in the country.

According to the governor, if the Federal Government fails to restore the subject, the state government would initiate law to ensure it is taught in Benue Schools.

He said: "Removing the subject History from theCountry's school curriculum is an evil agenda to prevent the young generation from knowing their past."

"Even if Nigeria won't restore the study of history to the school curriculum, we in Benue will initiate a legislation to make history a compulsory subject in school in the state."

"Our children need to know how their forefathers lived on this land hundreds of years ago. Our children need to know what took place at Ushongo Hills in 1804 and why this land and our people were not conquered till this day."

ABENEMI’S CARETAKER COMMITTEE OF KOGI SDP: A FARCE? The situation regarding the caretaker committee established by the SDP in Kogi state is beginning to shift, as the presiding judge has decided to return the case to the Chief Judge (CJ) for reassignment to a substantive judge once the judicial vacation ends. This decision is significant because, upon reassignment, the new judge will set a fresh date for the hearing, which, according to reports, may be sometime in October or November. Until then, all parties must maintain the status quo, meaning, Hon. Moses Peter will continue as the chairman, and the caretaker committee's actions will be rendered ineffective, making all their decisions null and void. In terms of the upcoming elections, this implies that: - The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) will be legally bound to recognize Moses Peter as the party chairman and work with him on all electoral matters. - Candidates not presented to KOSIEC through the office ...
