The former Kogi state House of Assembly Aspirant to represent the good people of DEKINA-BIRAIDU Constituency on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Justice Okpanachi has called on youths and others to distance themselves from acts of causing mayhem during the next general elections of 2023. He maintained that apart from party differences, we are people of common class origin and language where the need for violence does not arise let alone possessing weapons to cause havoc to the opposition party.
He said that "All we ask for in Kogi state, is a peaceful, free, fair and credible election".
As the general election draws near it is obvious that the administration of tyrannical Governor Yahaya Bello won't guarantee a peaceful, free, fair and credible elections in kogi state. Given the recent dictatorial statement he has been making, particularly when he confirmed that he his a good marksman and will shoot anyone that criticised his administration.
We therefore call on the international community, Civil Society Organisations(CSO) and Human Rights Watch Associations of Nigeria (HURIWA) to be on red alert on the violence activities and horrific crimes being carried out on opposition in the state.
He also said he is aware of facts making the round;
'It is on good authority that a local government chairman has been distributing AK 47 to thugs to use to muscle out oppositions, more still several assassination and kidnapping attempt on some of my party members have been rife in the state.'
He stated further,
'I want to use this medium to state that those who make peaceful change impossible are certainly inviting inevitable violent change.'
As a law-abiding party, PDP; that is built on principle of justice, good governance and fair play we shall not degenerate to any level of violence, neither will we accommodate any form of chaos. We rather channel all our grievances through constitutional means, But nonetheless, we shall not hesitate to defend ourselves if attacked."
He call on mostly youth across party lines: 'On a final note what we request its a peaceful, free fair and credible election in the state anything less than these is unacceptable".
