Matriculating Students of the Kogi State College of Health Sciences and Technology Idah have been told to focus on academic excellence.

The Kogi State Commissioner for Health, Dr . Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza made the assertion in a message to the 17th matriculation ceremony of the College at Idah.

The commissioner who was represented by the Director of Administration and finance (DAF) of the ministry which was delivered by the Director of Administration, Mr. Emma Itodo congratulated the students on their matriculation.

The commissioner noted that the Ministry was aware of the critical role of health care practitioners in health care service delivery assuring that  Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo administration was committed to the overall turnaround of the health sector

 The acting provost of the college, Sanitarian Umar Anatako Shaibu in his matriculation Speech expressed confidence that the Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo administration will take the college to the next level of development.

Sanitarian Umar who congratulated the matriculating Students on their well deserved entry into the institution noted that the ceremony is an annual event aimed at formally admitting the new students into the institution.

He charged the students to be law abiding, shun all forms of social vices like cultism, drug abuse, indecent dressing, rape, examination malpractices among others.

According to him on assumption of office as acting provost following the directive of the immediate past Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello on December, 27th, 2023,he and the management swung into action.

 The acting provost said he and management have the college Administrative block, construction of some benches for the use of students to enhance learning.

Others he explained include , repair and servicing of old but only 32 seater coasta bus, purchase of drugs for the college clinic, mounting of the school transformer awaiting proper installation to boost electricity supply.

The acting Provost disclosed that the institution purchased some extinguishers and other security apparatus within the period.

He appealed to the state government to construct the network of roads within the school premises promised by the immediate past Governor, construct more lecture Halls and lecture theaters, construction of a bitting administrative block, improved salary structure and implementation of staff promotion, official vehicles and the provision of fund for the introduction of new courses.

 In a goodwill message, the immediate past provost of the college, Dr. Solomon Anyegwu congratulated the students and the acting provost on his appointment as acting provost.

He explained that leadership is ordained by God and urged all and sundry to support the acting provost to succeed in the task of moving the institution forward.

The student union President of the college comrade Usman Badamasi urged his fellow students to remain good Ambassadors of the institution during and after their programs.

He appealed to the state government to construct the internal road network of the college as well as complete the perimeter fencing of the institution.

The acting deputy provost, Mr. Alex Iyaji expressed gratitude to all invited guests for honoring the invitation to attend the program.

Highlights of the event was the presentation of the Provost cup to the Environmental health team that won the inter departmental football match as part of the activities marking the matriculation ceremony.

The acting provost while presenting the cup to the winners disclosed that as from next session, the Attah Igala Cup competition will be introduced at the institution.
